Driving to Sheffield on Saturday morning listening to the Today Programme on Radio 4 I heard about the Patois translation of the Bible. I’m not a religious person so normally a story like this would just pass me by. But as it involved translation it caught my attention.
What followed was great, they played the Patois translation, which is available to download, and it was mesmerising. I don’t speak Patois myself, but the language has such a great rhythm to it that it had an amazing lyrical quality to it I really loved.
It’s great that the millions who speak Patois on a daily basis not have a version of the Bible in their own language. The whole translation is due to be completed by 2012 but the book of Luke is available now to download for free from iTunes.
It’s well worth a listen.
