News – Minutes ‘Matter of Urgency’

Independent inquiry’s recommendations for minutes

An independent inquiry today recommended that the ‘30-year rule’ under which cabinet minutes are released to the public should be slashed to just 15 years, The Guardian reports. The panel stated that it was ‘a matter of urgency’ for records to be placed in a sustainable storage environment by the time they are 10 years old. The review also called for ‘full, accurate and impartial records of government business’ to be kept.
