News – Language Day

Mothering Sunday is looming (2 March), but today is International Mother Language Day. This is the ninth International Mother Language Day, which is celebrated every 21 February to promote linguistic diversity and multilingual education. The theme of this year’s day is the UN-declared International Year of Languages, languages being an essential element of UNESCO’s mandate in education, science, social and human sciences, culture, communication and information. The main purpose of the initiative is to protect all languages, particularly endangered languages, in all individual and collective contexts.
